Window Washing Tips

Thinking of doing a little spring cleaning?  Now that the weather is nice and much of the rain is over, your windows may need some real cleaning.  Tackle the task by following these easy and effective window cleaning tips.

  1. Recipe for streak free windows and a terrific shine: To 1 large bucket of warm water add- ½ cup ammonia, ½ cup white wine vinegar and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. (Cornstarch acts as a deodorizer.)

  2. Clean windows on a day that is not too hot or too cold.  If the temperature is too hot, windows are more apt to streak as the soap dries quickly.

  3. Use newspapers or coffee filters instead of paper towels.  Newspapers and coffee filters produce less lint and create more shine.

  4. To identify which side of the window is streaked, dry the inside in one direction and the outside of the same window in another direction.

  5. To remove dirt and sticky spots off windows, window sills and mirrors, rub with rubbing alcohol.

  6. To clean the corners of windows, use cotton swabs dampened with a window cleaner.

  7. Make window sill cleaning fast and easy each time by coating them with spray wax used for floors one time per month. This protects the window sill paint and dirt wipes off quickly and easily all the time.
